Oproep voor nominaties: 2025 L'Oréal-Unesco For Women in Science-prijzen

De Nederlandse Unesco Commissie roept op tot nominaties voor de internationale L'Oréal-Unesco For Women in Science-prijzen. Deze jaarlijkse prijzen eren vijf vooraanstaande vrouwelijke wetenschappers uit de volgende regio’s: Azië en de Pacific, Afrika en de Arabische Staten, Latijns-Amerika, Noord-Amerika, en Europa. Elke winnares ontvangt een geldbedrag van €100.000 voor haar uitmuntende bijdragen aan wetenschappelijk onderzoek.

De prijzen zijn dit jaar specifiek bedoeld voor vrouwelijke wetenschappers die een significante impact hebben gehad in de exacte wetenschappen, wiskunde of computerwetenschappen (‘physical sciences, mathematics and computer science’). De For Women in Science-prijzen zijn in het leven geroepen om de zichtbaarheid van inspirerende vrouwelijke rolmodellen te vergroten, en om genderongelijkheid in de wetenschap aan te pakken.

De deadline voor nominaties is maandag 1 juli 2024. De regels voor deze oproep zijn hier te vinden. Nominaties kunnen worden ingediend via het internationale online platform. Dit hoeft niet te worden afgestemd met de Nederlandse Unesco Commissie.

Nederland kent ook een nationaal For Women in Science beurzenprogramma, een samenwerking tussen de Nederlandse Unesco Commissie, L’Oréal Benelux, het LNVH en NIAS-KNAW. Winnaars krijgen een beurs om een semester lang onderzoek uit te voeren en contacten te leggen bij NIAS-KNAW. Voor dit nationale programma geldt een geheel aparte oproep, die pas na de zomer online zal komen.

Call for Nominations: 2025 L'Oréal-Unesco For Women in Science Awards

The Netherlands Commission for Unesco invites nominations for the international 2025 L'Oréal-Unesco For Women in Science Awards. These annual awards honor five outstanding women scientists from the following regions: Asia and the Pacific, Africa and the Arab States, Latin America, North America, and Europe. Each laureate receives a prize of €100,000 for her exceptional contributions to scientific research.

This year's awards specifically recognize female scientists who have made a significant impact in the fields of physical sciences, mathematics, and computer science. The For Women in Science Awards aim to increase the visibility of inspiring female role models and address gender inequality in science.

The deadline for nominations is Monday, 1 July 2024. The rules and regulations for this call can be found here. Nominations can be submitted through the international online platform. Coordination with the Netherlands Commission for Unesco is not required.

The Netherlands also has its own national For Women in Science fellowship program, a collaboration between the Netherlands Commission for Unesco, L'Oréal Benelux, LNVH, and NIAS-KNAW. Winners receive a grant to conduct research and network at NIAS for a semester. A separate call for this national program will be published after the summer.
